대학원생을 위한 PCT 장학 연수 프로그램

세계지식재산기구(WIPO)의 PCT 번역국은 국제기구에서의 현장 체험을 제공하기 위해 보조 용어 전문가, 번역사, 및 번역 기술 전문가를 위한 장학 연수 프로그램을 짭니다. WIPO는 현재 2021년 장학 연수 프로그램 지원서를 받고 있습니다.

장학 연수직에는 세 종류가 있습니다.

• 용어 장학 연수생은 PCT Termbase의 용어 항목을 만드는 연수를 받고 용어 항목은 WIPO Pearl에 차후 공개됩니다.
• 번역 장학 연수생은 특허 요약서 및 특허 심사 문서를 번역하는 연수를 받습니다.
• 번역 기술 장학 연수생은 번역 및 용어 관리 시스템과 기계 번역 시스템의 사용 및 지원과 관련된 연수를 받습니다.

참가자는 제네바에서 장학 연수 기간 동안 WIPO PCT 번역국 직원으로부터 교육과 지도를 받게 됩니다. 장학 연수 기간은 다양할 수 있으나 대개 최소 3개월입니다. 장학 연수생은 월급으로 5천 스위스프랑을 받고 의료 보장도 받게 됩니다. 또한, 여행 및 비자와 관련해 WIPO의 지원을 받게 됩니다.

2021년 장학 연수 프로그램은 코로나19 관련 상황에 따라 진행되는 점에 유의해 주시기 바랍니다. 합격자는 빨라야 2021년 가을에 WIPO에서 장학 연수 프로그램을 시작할 수 있을 것으로 예상되며, 2021년 2월 현재 WIPO 직원을 비롯해 장학 연수생은 WIPO 사무실에서 근무하지 않고 제네바 지역에서 재택근무를 하고 있음을 주지해 주시기 바랍니다. 이 상황이 언제 바뀔지는 코로나19 사태가 어떻게 진전되느냐에 달려 있어 아직 알 수 없는 실정입니다.

자격 요건

용어 장학 연수

지원자는 용어, 번역, 관련 언어 분야, 또는 기술 분야(고급 언어 능력을 갖춘 경우)의 고급 학위과정(석사, 박사 또는 이와 동등한 학위)을 현재 이수 중이거나 최근에 졸업한 사람이어야 합니다. 응용 용어에 대한 사전 경험은 있으면 유리하나 필요조건은 아니며, 지원자는 차후 모국어로 작업하게 됩니다.

2021년에는 고급 영어 지식을 갖고 있으며 한국어, 아랍어, 중국어, 독일어, 일본어, 포르투갈어, 러시아어 또는 스페인어를 모국어로 하는 사람들을 대상으로 지원서를 받고 있습니다.

번역 장학 연수

지원자는 번역, 용어, 관련 언어 분야, 또는 기술 분야(고급 언어 능력을 갖춘 경우)의 고급 학위과정(석사, 박사 또는 이와 동등한 학위)을 현재 이수 중이거나 최근에 졸업한 사람이어야 합니다. 기술 번역에 대한 사전 경험은 있으면 유리하나 필요조건은 아니며, 지원자는 차후 모국어로 번역하게 됩니다.

2021년에는 지원자로부터 다음의 언어 조합에 대하여 지원서를 받습니다.

• 중국어->영어
• 일본어->영어
• 한국어->영어
• 영어->한국어(로컬라이제이션에 초점)

번역 기술 장학 연수

지원자는 번역 기술, 번역, 또는 번역 기술 요소를 포함하는 관련 언어 분야, 또는 전산 언어학이나 정보 기술 등의 기술 분야의 고급 학위과정(석사, 박사 또는 이와 동등한 학위)을 현재 이수 중이거나 최근에 졸업한 사람이어야 합니다. 번역 기술에 대한 사전 경험은 있으면 유리하나 필요조건은 아니며, 지원자는 차후 영어 또는 프랑스어로 작업하게 됩니다.

주목: 지원자는 자격 요건을 충족하는 경우, 2종류 이상의 장학 연수직, 또는 3종류 모두에 지원할 수 있습니다. 이 경우, 지원하는 장학 연수직 각 종류에 대한 지원서를 개별적으로 제출해야 합니다.

1차 심사 후에 지원자는 용어 시험, 번역 시험 및/또는 적성 검사를 봐야 합니다.

지원 마감 시간은 제네바 현지 시간을 기준으로 2021년 3월 15일 오후 11시 59분으로, 이 시간 이후로는 지원서 접수가 불가합니다.

World Intellectual Property Organization:

Call for Applications to the PCT Fellowship Program for Graduate Students

The PCT Translation Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) organizes a Fellowship Program for assistant terminologists, translators, and translation technologists, with the aim of providing on-the-job experience at an international organization. WIPO is now accepting applications for the 2021 edition of the Program. 

There are three types of Fellowship position:

• Terminology fellows are trained in the creation of terminology entries for the PCT Termbase and subsequent publication in WIPO Pearl.
• Translation fellows are trained in the translation of patent abstracts and patent examination documents.
• Translation technology fellows are trained in the use and support of translation and terminology management systems and machine translation systems.

Staff of the PCT Translation Division at WIPO provide training and guidance to participants throughout the period of their fellowship in Geneva. Fellowships may vary in length but usually are not shorter than three months. Fellows are given a monthly stipend of 5,000 Swiss francs and are provided with medical cover. Additionally WIPO will assist with travel and visa arrangements.

Please note that the 2021 edition of the Program is taking place subject to the conditions prevailing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Successful applicants would likely not begin their Fellowship with WIPO before autumn 2021. In addition, we would like to inform applicants that WIPO staff and hence also Fellows are currently (February 2021) working from home within the Geneva area, rather than in the office at WIPO. It is not yet known when this situation may change, since it depends on the evolution of the pandemic.

Requirements

For the Terminology Fellowship

Candidates should be currently pursuing or be a recent graduate of an advanced degree program (Master’s, Doctorate or an equivalent level degree) in terminology, translation, a related linguistic discipline, or in a technical field provided they have a strong linguistic ability. Prior experience in applied terminology would be considered an advantage but is not a requirement, and applicants are expected to work in their native language.

In 2021, applications are invited from native speakers of Arabic, Chinese, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, who also have excellent knowledge of English.

For the Translation Fellowship

Candidates should be currently pursuing or be a recent graduate of an advanced degree program (Master’s, Doctorate or an equivalent level degree) in translation, terminology, a related linguistic discipline, or in a technical field provided they have a strong linguistic ability. Prior experience in technical translation would be considered an advantage but is not a requirement, and applicants are expected to translate into their native language.

In 2021, applications are requested from candidates working in the following language combinations only:

• Chinese to English
• Japanese to English
• Korean to English
• English to Korean (localization focus)

For the Translation Technology Fellowship

Candidates should be currently pursuing or be a recent graduate of an advanced degree program (Master’s, Doctorate or an equivalent level degree) in translation technology, translation or a related linguistic discipline including a translation technology component, or in a technical field such as computational linguistics or information technology. Prior experience in translation technology would be considered an advantage but is not a requirement, and applicants are expected to work in English or French.
